The Laramie County Fair has been an agricultural showcase and family tradition in Southeast Wyoming since 1907. Each year, the Laramie County Fair Board of Trustees passionately organized and supervised a successful, family-friendly atmosphere that provides a valuable opportunity for young 4H and FFA Members to showcase their skills as showmen and their abilities to raise prize animals. Since its inception, the Laramie County Fair has been one of the best in the nation, all thanks to the hard-working and dedicated Fair Board of Trustees and the support of Laramie County residents.
On November 20, 2018, the Laramie County Commissioners unanimously and unlawfully voted to dissolve the Laramie County Fair Board of Trustees. This action constituted a gross abuse of power and violates Wyoming law.
In response to the Laramie County Commissioners’ unlawful action and to protect the Laramie County residents’ investment in the Laramie County Fair and its facilities, the Laramie County Fair Board of Trustees has filed a Complaint for Declaratory Judgment requesting the Laramie County District Court to decide that the action dissolving the Laramie County Fair Board of Trustees was unlawful and further decide whether the Laramie County Commissioners can re-purpose a mill levy to be spent on items and by a department not approved by the Laramie County voters.
The Laramie County Fair Board of Trustees is also requesting the Court issue a Preliminary Injunction and Temporary Restraining Order. The purpose of which will be to restore the Laramie County Fair Board of Trustees and restrain the Commissioners from dissolving the Laramie County Fair Board of Trustees until further order of the Court. This matter has been set for a hearing on December 5, 2018 at 8:15 a.m. in the Laramie County District Court.
