Mayor Marian Orr Announces Appointment of Tony Ross to Senior Municipal Judge

City 12-11-19

Mayor Marian Orr has announced that Tony Ross has been tapped to serve as Senior Municipal Judge for the City of Cheyenne.

“I am thrilled that Tony will be joining our team and leading the judicial branch of our city government,” stated Mayor Orr. “During his distinguished time in the legislature he helped craft many of the laws we have today, and he’s no stranger to our municipal court as a long-time prosecutor.  I could not think of a better person to serve our court and our community than Tony Ross. I thank him for saying ‘yes’, and I look forward to working with him as we continue to modernize our court.”

Ross brings over 40 years of law practicing experience to the City. The Cheyenne native makes his way to City Hall from Ross, Ross & Santini, L.L.C. where he specialized in civil litigation. That firm – formally known as Ross & Ross, Attorneys at Law – was formed by Tony and his father Vincent in 1979.

“The opportunity to continue public service and to serve the citizens of Cheyenne is humbling and a big honor. I’m excited to continue doing what I love most which is to serve others. I appreciate the Mayor’s confidence in me with this opportunity,” Ross said of his new position.

In 2015, Ross was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America in the fields of Family Law, Family Mediation, and Government Relations Practice. He holds bar admissions for the State of Wyoming/Wyoming Supreme Court; State of Colorado/Colorado Supreme Court; U.S. District Court, District of Wyoming; U.S. District Court, District of Colorado; and U.S. Court of Appeals 10th Circuit.

“This is an exciting opportunity for the City’s Municipal Court system. Not only is it the passing of leadership but the vision of the court will remain sound with Tony,” said departing Senior Municipal Judge Mark Moran who announced his retirement effective December 31st. “Tony holds a long association with the court. He is an experienced and trusted member of the legal community. He will bring a new vision to the use of technology and help the court transition into the new municipal court building.”

Ross served in the Wyoming House of Representatives from 1995 to 2004. In 2005 he was elected to the Wyoming Senate, later serving as President of the Senate in 2013, Senate Majority Floor Leader in the 2011-12 term, and Senate Vice President in the 2009-10 term. During his tenure, Ross served on numerous committees. Most recently he served as Chairman for the Joint Legislative and Executive Task Force on Capitol Building Rehabilitation and Restoration. Ross also served as Attorney for the Wyoming State Senate from 1980-82.

Ross has held previous associations as a member of the Military Affairs Committee for the Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors member with the Cheyenne Kiwanis Club, and President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for Southeast Wyoming.

Ross obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of Wyoming College of Law in 1978 and is a Cum Laude honors graduate from the University of Puget Sound.

Ross and his wife, Sandy, have two children, Cameron and Keaton.

The position of Senior Municipal Judge is a mayoral appointment approved by City Council.
