Victim Dies in Cheyenne Strangulation, Assault Case

The 19-year-old victim of an aggravated assault and strangulation case last week in Cheyenne has died as a result of her injuries.  According to Cheyenne Police, Phoenix Cerenil was declared dead Saturday afternoon.  Detectives are continuing their investigation as a homicide.

Around 12:20 Thursday morning, police were dispatched to a 9-1-1 hang up at a camper near the 4700 block of Cactus Way. Officers arrived to find that an aggravated assault had taken place. Based on information obtained during the investigation, it is believed that a physical altercation occurred between Cerenil and a male subject, later identified as 19-year-old Charles Rees Karn, of Cheyenne.

Karn was taken into custody and booked into the Laramie County Jail on felony charges of aggravated assault with serious bodily injury, strangulation of a household member, and domestic battery.
