Cheyenne Frontier Days™ (CFD) has decided not to have the bucking horse roundup this year.
CFD CEO Tom Hirsig said they’ve talked about putting something together in place of the bucking horse roundup.
Hirsig added this was a really tough decision to make.
CFD has honored the tradition of the American West by gathering horses and cattle from the range and bringing livestock to Frontier Park to kick off the event. This was done with a cattle drive for many years, and more recently, with a bucking horse roundup.
Over the years, the community has grown and expanded, and safety has become more of a focus when CFD brings animals closer to development and busy roadways.
There’s also timing to consider. Since adding Team Roping and Breakaway Roping, which bring 600 more contestants to Frontier Park each year, CFD needed their timed event stock on park more than a week before the show starts.
