Around 8:45 Thursday morning, the Cheyenne Police/Laramie County Joint SWAT Team, Laramie Police Special Response Team, Cheyenne Police/Laramie County Crisis Negotiation Unit, Wyoming Highway Patrol, and U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force were involved in a high-risk warrant service operation at a residence near the 3500 block of Cody Lane.
The wanted subject, identified as 49-year-old Robert Campbell Jr., of Laramie County, had an outstanding federal warrant for probation violation on original charges of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Campbell previously served 180 months for being in possession of a fully functioning machine gun among other firearms.
Following a period of surveillance, it was determined that Campbell was staying at a residence on Cody Lane. Due to his history of violence, drug trafficking, and possession of illegal firearms, he was considered to be armed and dangerous.
The operation was pre-planned – SWAT team leaders completed a risk assessment in advance of the warrant service to ensure the safety of everyone in the area.
Upon arrival at the residence, the team made multiple announcements, commanding Campbell to exit. The situation was brought to an end at 9:05 a.m. when Campbell surrendered, walking out of a nearby trailer.
Campbell was arrested and booked into the Laramie County Jail on his existing warrant.
The case remains under investigation by the Cheyenne Police Department’s Community Action Team and U.S. Marshals Service.
