City Council Members Want an End to the 15th Street Rail Experience [[ AUDIO ]]

Three city council members are calling for an immediate end to the 15th Street Rail Experience project. Councilwoman Dr. Michelle Aldrich cited a lack of transparency, misplaced priorities, and a growing list of unresolved concerns as to why this project shouldn’t come to fruition.

Ward 1 encompasses 15th Street, of which Councilman Pete Laybourn is the representative. He says this area of the downtown has seen a resurgence.

Councilman Mark Moody feels this experience will negatively impact the Gunslingers.

Trixie is one of the gunslingers, who said they’ve been going through a rough time.

Conceived as a downtown attraction showcasing historic railcars and infrastructure, the council members feel the 15th Street Rail Experience has already consumed significant public resources.

Aldrich, Moody, and Laybourn feel the project remains far from functional, with little evidence that it would generate the tourism or economic activity originally promised.

The finance committee is expected to further discuss the measure next Tuesday before it heads before the full city council a week later.
