A traffic stop in Laramie County has turned into Attempted Vehicular Homicide charges. The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office reports 64-year-old Calvin Alexander, of Cheyenne, was booked on charges of attempted aggravated vehicular homicide, interference, felony property destruction, DUI, and aggravated fleeing and eluding.
Around 6:40 Monday night, deputies were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle call in the 10,000 block of East Four Mile Road. Deputies observed a black Kia Soul driving in the area of East Four Mile and Buckboard Road. Emergency lights and sirens were activated as deputies attempted to stop the vehicle.
Alexander refused to stop for deputies and continued diving at a slow rate of speed. Deputies followed Alexander along Four Mile Road where he did several U-turns in the middle of the road. Deputies yelled for Alexander to pullover as he drove past them. He briefly stopped and deputies exited their vehicles and attempted to contact Alexander. He then accelerated and swerved into a deputy, pinning him to his vehicle causing injury.
Alexander continued driving in circles as additional deputies arrived. Stop strips were deployed, ultimately flattening the tires on the Kia. Alexander then rammed into a parked patrol vehicle. He was again attempting to drive away when Sheriff Brian Kozak pinned the Kia with his patrol truck.
Alexander then refused to exit his vehicle. Windows were broken out of the Kia and an officer with the Cheyenne Police Department shot pepper balls into the vehicle. Alexander eventually exited his vehicle and continued to resist.
He was subsequently tased and taken into custody without further incident.
