Senator Cynthia Lummis Not Seeking Re-Election

Senator Cynthia Lummis is deciding not to run for reelection to the U.S. Senate in 2026.

In a statement, Lummis said deciding not to run for reelection does represent a change of heart for her, but in the difficult, exhausting session weeks this fall, she said she came to accept that she does not have six more years in her.

Senator Lummis went on to say it was a blessing to serve with Senators John Barrasso and Mike Enzi when she was in the U.S. House of Representatives and with Barrasso and Rep. Harriet Hageman while in the U.S. Senate. She added they all put Wyoming first, which has cemented their cohesive working relationship.

“Cynthia Lummis is a perfect senator for Wyoming. From Miss Frontier Days to the Wyoming Legislature to the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate – Cynthia has never stopped fighting for the people of Wyoming,” Senator John Barrasso explained.

“Cynthia is a straight shooter and a trailblazer. We’re going to miss her infectious energy and iconic laugh in the halls of the U.S. Senate. I’m grateful we have another year to work side by side serving the people of Wyoming.”

According to Rep. Harriet Hageman, “there are few figures in the history of Wyoming public service who have had an impact as large and substantial as Senator Lummis.”

“For forty-six years in jobs with the public trust, Cynthia Lummis has embodied the clear-eyed common sense that Wyoming is known for. Her retirement marks the close of an extraordinary era in our state’s political history—one defined by integrity, independence, and an unwavering devotion to the people she served.”
