The Cheyenne Police Department has identified Taylor Wardell, 28, and Mandi Hopkins, 28, both of Cheyenne, as the suspects in three robberies and a theft occurring in Cheyenne in August and September of this year. Wardell and Hopkins were both arrested on October 1 for unrelated warrants and remain in custody at the Laramie County Jail.
On August 14 and 15, the CPD investigated armed robberies occurring at Silvermine Subs, 453 Vandehei Ave. and Loaf N Jug, 4373 E. Lincolnway, within a short amount of time. Vino’s Wine and Spirits, 453 Vandehei Ave., was robbed on September 9 when a person, now identified as Wardell, threatened the clerk with a gun and took money from the store. On September 27, the Subway at 111 W. Carlson St. was the site of an attempted robbery in which the clerk was not in the store at the time Wardell came in to conduct a robbery and Wardell was able to access the cash drawer of the restaurant. Nobody was injured during these events.
Investigators with the CPD have determined that Wardell completed all three of these robberies and stole money from the cash drawer at Subway. When Wardell was arrested, he had a robbery note which stated, “Give me the money or I’ll shoot.” in his possession as well as clothing used in the robberies. In interviews with CPD detectives, Hopkins admitted to helping Wardell commit several of these robberies by driving a vehicle for him and planning the commission of these crimes. These cases remain under investigation by the Cheyenne Police Department.
