BOPU Launches New Lead Service Line Identification & Informational Webpage

The City of Cheyenne, Board of Public Utilities (BOPU) has begun work on a multi-year initiative to develop, implement, identify and compile a comprehensive inventory of material classification for the City’s drinking water service lines.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) has implemented new rules requiring utilities locate lead, copper, and galvanized steel service lines in their communities and notify customers specifically if they have a lead service line serving their property.

In an effort to provide the most accurate service line information available at this time, the BOPU has launched a Lead Service Line Identification and Information webpage for customers (www.cheyennebopu.org/leadfree).

This webpage features an overview of lead material and its general historical uses, BOPU’s comprehensive Lead Service Line Response Plan, as well as a Geographic Information System (GIS) map where BOPU customers can search for and determine the possible type of water service line material in their home or business.  Customers will also find essential health-related resources to reduce the potential risk for lead exposure.

Additional resources from the United States EPA regarding information about Lead in Drinking Water can be found at https://www.epa.gov/ground-water-and-drinking-water/basic-information-about-lead-drinking-water.

For further information and specific inquiries, customers can contact the BOPU at 307.637.6460 or at leadfree@cheyennebopu.org.
