Cheyenne Frontier Days announced Friday that President and Chief Executive Officer Dan Cheney has submitted his resignation effective September 26 and accepted the position of Chief Operating Officer with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
The Cheyenne Frontier Days Board of Directors named Darin Westby interim CEO. Westby is the Chief Operating Officer and the current General Chairman of the Cheyenne Frontier Days General Committee. Cheney just completed his fifth show as President and CEO, a run in which rodeo attendance and concert crowds increased over the past five-years at the World’s Largest Outdoor Rodeo and Western Celebration.
“I am excited about this opportunity with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo” said Cheney, but “I will miss my home state of Wyoming and all of the people and especially the 2,300 volunteers who work tirelessly year-round that make CFD so special. I am proud of the many records that were set and significant growth in all major metrics that our team has produced and pleased that I can leave the organization in strong financial position.”
“We tried hard to keep Dan and are sorry to see him go. However, we appreciate everything Dan has done for Cheyenne Frontier Days and we are proud that he has earned this opportunity and we wish him well,” said Bill Hill, Chairman of the Cheyenne Frontier Days Board of Directors. Hill said the board expects to begin soliciting and interviewing candidates for the new CEO immediately.
