Cheyenne Begins 2024 Crack Seal/Surface Seal Project

The City of Cheyenne has started its annual crack seal and surface seal project, which will help extend the life of streets across the city.

Crack Seal

The crack seal project will last about three weeks and cover 30 centerline miles of street. Crack sealing seals cracks in the asphalt surface, preventing water, oil, and debris from penetrating the road surface and causing further damage.

Residents should avoid driving, riding, or walking through fresh crack seals, as the substance can take around an hour to cure. Residents should also be mindful of any parking restrictions scheduled the day of crack seal work.

Crack sealing is scheduled for portions of several neighborhoods, including in South Cheyenne, Western Hills, The Pointe, and Sun Valley. Some major streets will also be crack sealed, including 19th Street, Logan Avenue, Hot Springs Avenue, Omaha Road, Windmill Road, Yellowstone Road, and Storey Boulevard.

Surface Seal

The surface seal project will last about five weeks and cover 60 centerline miles. Surface seal shields asphalt pavement by filling in minor cracks, enhancing the texture of the surface, and adding a fresh layer that withstands wear and reduces damage from ultraviolet rays. Select areas of some roads may require fresh asphalt patching prior to placing slurry seal. Slurry seal is typically placed after a crack seal has been completed.

Residents should avoid driving, riding, or walking through fresh surface seals, as the substance can take two to four hours to cure. Residents should also be mindful of any parking restrictions scheduled the day of surface seal work.

Surface sealing is scheduled for a number of neighborhoods around the city, including South Cheyenne, Western Hills, Sun Valley, Saddle Ridge, areas near Cheyenne Regional Airport, and others.
