Cheyenne Fire & Rescue To Hand Out Free Smoke Alarms And Batteries On October 31

Cheyenne City   10-27-17

Cheyenne Fire & Rescue in partnership with Energizer Batteries is giving away smoke alarms and 9-volt batteries on Halloween, Tuesday, October 31st at Frontier Mall in Cheyenne.

The free giveaway will be held in conjunction with Trick-or-Treating in the Mall, 1400 Dell Range Boulevard, which will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. while supplies last.

“This is a great time of year to get people thinking about their smoke alarms. When we change our clocks to end Daylight Savings Time, we need to also change the batteries in our smoke alarms,” said Bob Mason with Cheyenne Fire & Rescue. “A working smoke alarm can give you and your family the critical extra seconds to make a safe escape from a fire. On average, a family only has three minutes to get out of a house fire safely.”

In addition to changing smoke alarm batteries every year, Cheyenne Fire & Rescue also recommends replacing individual smoke alarms every 10 years. Check the back of your device for the manufacture date. If the alarm is older than 10 years, the alarm needs to be replaced.

It only takes a few minutes to ensure your smoke alarm has fresh batteries. Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire nearly in half.
