Cheyenne Police Arrest Suspect Following Stolen Vehicle Pursuit

The driver of a stolen vehicle is in custody after leading police officers on a high-speed chase through east Cheyenne Thursday afternoon.

Just before 1:00 p.m., Cheyenne Police Officers were dispatched to a report of a stolen vehicle at Burger King located at 2345 East Lincolnway. The victim left his car running with a key in the ignition and went inside to pick up an order. During the brief time he was inside, a man got into the car and drove away.

Around 1:30 p.m. a Cheyenne Police Officer recognized the stolen vehicle traveling near the intersection of East 5th Street and Morrie Avenue.

He attempted to make a traffic stop but the driver, later identified as 32-year-old Tony Brown, of Cheyenne, refused to yield and accelerated to a high rate of speed. As the officer followed, Brown proceeded to drive recklessly, at times changing lanes without signaling and running red lights.

The pursuit ended when Brown’s vehicle hit a curb, flattening one of the tires. He exited and ran away from the officer. Additional officers joined the foot chase and were able to catch up with Brown. They commanded him to lay on the ground and he complied.

Brown was booked into the Laramie County Jail on the following charges:

  • Motor vehicle theft
  • Fleeing/eluding
  • Reckless driving
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Running a red light
  • Failure to maintain lane
  • Interference with a peace officer
  • Speeding over the posted limit
  • Driving without a license
