CPD 3-22-21
The Cheyenne Police Department (CPD) is pleased to announce the hiring of five new police officers.
Reece Federer, Brian Hiltner, Erik Mayfield, Emily Taraski, and Cole Tompkins were sworn in as Cheyenne Police Officers on Monday, March 22nd at the Public Safety Center.
The recruits were selected from a pool of 144 applicants, 14 of whom advanced through the CPD hiring process. The new officers will now attend the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy located in Douglas, WY in April.
Officer Federer, a native of Cheyenne, WY, expressed that serving his community has been a lifelong goal. “I have wanted to be a police officer since I was in the first grade,” he said. “I grew up in this town and feel that it is not only my responsibility to protect the Legend, but my privilege to do so as well.”
Cheyenne’s strong sense of community influenced many individuals to apply. Officer Taraski, moved to Cheyenne from Albany, Oregon. “It’s been a lifelong dream to give back to my community and become a role model for all the young women after me…the sense of community and support for one another is what I love most about Cheyenne and the reason I am proud to call it home,” she said.
CPD’s mission is “Protecting the Legend” by working in cooperation with Cheyenne’s citizens to lead the charge in preventing crime and defending the rights of the community. In their new roles, these recruits will be tasked with the duties of serving and protecting Wyoming’s capitol, and its largest city.
Mayor Patrick Collins attended the swearing in ceremony and wished the new officers the best of luck and success in their new careers.
“This is a great place, with great leadership…thank you very much for your commitment to Cheyenne. I look forward to seeing you in our community and having the opportunity to work together,” said Collins.
