VA 6-6-19
The Cheyenne VA Health Care System will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house for their new Community Living Center nursing home wing on June 10, at 1 p.m. The new wing is located near the circle of flags on the Cheyenne VA campus, 2360 E. Pershing Blvd, in Cheyenne, and the public is invited to attend.
The new addition offers 12 new bedrooms designed to alleviate double occupancy within the existing living center.
Residents of the new facility will officially cut the ribbon, while volunteers will offer tours of the facility during the reception and open house.
According to the facility’s Master Planner Carolyn Thompson, this ceremony denotes the completion of the first phase, of a two-phase goal to update the Cheyenne VA’s capability to care for aging Veterans.
“The original facility was built in 1934 to care for World War I Veterans,” Thompson said. “The old facility was built to last, and it is my honor to be a part of providing our Veterans with the most modern and state-of-the-art care, while incorporating it with our architectural heritage.”
Thompson said the VA is in the preliminary stages of planning for phase two, but she envisions a two-story addition, with a separate area for hospice patients.
The Cheyenne VA Community Living Center has 42 beds, and provides short-term and long-term care for Veterans who meet certain eligibility requirements, and hospice care for all Veterans.
Those wishing to attend should arrive early, as on-site parking is limited; however, available at the Brimmer Park entrance to the facility.
