Cheyenne’s Water and Sewer Departments awarded for excellence in financial reporting for the 39th consecutive year

BOPU 4-4-17

Cheyenne’s Board of Public Utilities (BOPU) received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The certificate is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government organization and its management.

The GFOA awarded the certificate for meeting high standards in the BOPU’s 2016 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and for demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate the financial status of Cheyenne’s water and sewer funds. The BOPU received the award for the 39th consecutive year.

The 2016 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report summarizes how the BOPU invested revenues from water and sewer bills back into Cheyenne’s water and sewer systems. The report includes brief descriptions of major projects, a history of Cheyenne’s water development, a discussion and analysis of financial statements, a report from an independent auditor, and a statistical section summarizing Cheyenne’s water and sewer systems and finances. In short, the report describes the strength of Cheyenne’s water and sewer enterprise funds. The report is available online at www.cheyennecity.org/1021/Financial-Reports.

Jack Lyman and Marci Smith of the BOPU accounting department also received Awards of Financial Reporting Achievement. The award is given to persons responsible for maintaining financial records and for preparing the award-winning financial report.
