City Announces Sanitation Schedule Improvements for Residents

Cheyenne residents will soon see improvements to residential trash, recycling, and seasonal yard waste collection, including changes to when the City provides collection around holidays.

Residents will receive a letter in the mail about the changes. No changes have yet been scheduled for commercial pickup.

Beginning February 1st, the Sanitation Division will move to a 4-day, 10-hour schedule and will no longer serve residential customers on Fridays (except during holiday adjustments). Residential customers that currently have service on Fridays will be moved to a different day of the week. Some current Monday through Thursday customers may move to a different pickup day as well.

Holiday collection will also look different as the City will use what is referred to as a “sliding schedule.” Instead of collecting trash, recycling, and/or yard waste on Saturdays for customers whose collection falls on a holiday, all customers will be shifted one day later during the holiday week.

For example, a holiday that falls on a Monday will result in Monday collection moving to Tuesday, Tuesday collection moving to Wednesday, etc. A holiday that falls on a Wednesday would bump regular Wednesday and Thursday pickups back by one day.

This means that should customers forget their pickup day has moved, their containers will simply be picked up the following day.

The changes are the result of resident feedback and a systemwide Sanitation Rerouting and Optimization Study. The Sanitation Division will be able to greatly improve efficiency and accommodate future growth in Cheyenne.

The study and upcoming schedule changes do not affect where containers are placed, whether in the street or the alley. That determination is made by the Sanitation Division based on truck routing or access issues. Residents who need physical assistance moving their containers can contact the Sanitation Division and must provide a doctor’s letter stating that the assistance is needed.

Residents can find additional information at www.cheyennecity.org/publicworks or download the Recycle Coach app on their device to receive notifications about any changes in the City’s collection schedule.
