East Tops South To Stay Unbeaten

by Keith Kelley–15 Sep ’17

In a game that featured two lightning delays, and was called at the half during the second of those delays, the third-ranked East Thunderbirds routed the South Bison 47-0.

East jumped out early and often, but the game really changed late in the first quarter.  Leading 14-0 and backed up in their own territory, T-bird quarterback Matt Semler was picked off by South’s Tyler Wilken, who took it to the East one-yard line.  But the play was nullified after a roughing the passer penalty on the Bison.  That’s when the first lightning delay occurred.  After the delay, East would score a few plays later to really put the game away.

The Thunderbirds amassed 311 yards of total offense. Running back Ethan Ashworth rushed it for 117 yards on 15 carries, including two touchdowns.  Matt Semler was 11-11 of passing for 102 yards and four TD’s.  Noah James, Jordan Baker, Dakota Merritt and Nick Mirich all caught TD passes from Semler, while Vance Nagy caught six balls for 49 yards.  Semler also had a rushing score.

South was lead by fullback Trey Trimple, with 34 yards rushing on four carries.

East improves to 4-0 on the season, and will be at second-ranked Natrona County next week.  South falls to 0-4 on the year.
