F.E. Warren Air Force Base will host its annual free open house, known as Fort D.A. Russell Days, this weekend to give community members an opportunity to learn about the base’s mission and history.
Events will include historic military demonstrations, security forces dog presentations, muskets to missiles displays, period style dances and high noon gunfights.
There will also be tours of the Missile Procedures Trainer (a mockup of the Launch Control Center, where the missileers work) and the Uniform-01 Training Facility (a mockup of a Launch Facility, where the missile is housed). Participants will also visit the helicopter hangar, the Warren ICBM & Heritage Museum and maintenance vehicles.
On Saturday, the Buffalo/Beef Roast will occur from 10 am to 2 pm at the Trail’s End Club on base and includes roasted buffalo, baked beans, potato salad, corn cob and a dinner roll for purchase.
On Sunday, the Warren Spouses’ Historic Homes Tour and Warren ICBM & Heritage Museum Tour will take place from 9 am to 2:30 pm, during which some of the National Register Historic buildings on base will be open to visit.
Fort D.A. Russel Days will go from 9 am to 4 pm July 18-20. Anyone interested in attending may access the base through Gate 1 off of Randall Avenue with a driver’s license.
