Just before Noon on Wednesday, Cheyenne Police received a phone call threatening East High School. The caller shared that a student was in a bathroom with a gun.
Immediately following the call, school administration was notified of the potential threat, and East High was placed into a lockdown for the safety of the students and staff. Carey Junior High went into a secure protocol.
Around 12:45 p.m., the secure protocol was lifted at Carey. By 1:40 p.m., the hold was lifted at East.
Additional officers were dispatched to assist and without hesitation, entered the school. Officers then began simultaneously securing and searching the interior. Officers have cleared the building and determined there is no threat to public safety. No injuries have been reported.
It appears that this particular threat has become a statewide trend – similar unsubstantiated calls are being made to schools throughout the region.
