A Burns man who had stopped to help a vehicle that was out of gas on U.S. 30 died on Friday night after being run over by an SUV.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol reports that Marlin Miller, 25, stopped to assist a GMC Jimmy that was stranded one mile east of Cheyenne. Miller and was in the ditch helping Peter Bolejack put fuel in the Jimmy when a GMC Acadia crossed over the center line and struck both men before running into Miller’s truck.
Miller sustained fatal injuries and Bolejack was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center by ambulance. The teenage driver of the Acadia and front seat passenger were also hospitalized.
Troopers investigating the crash report that distracted driving and improper lane use are being investigated as contributing factors. Authorities are not releasing the identity of the teenage driver, as charges are pending.
Miller’s death is the 126th highway fatality in Wyoming this year.
