A lawsuit accuses local school officials in Cheyenne of failing to stop a sixth-grade teacher from sexually abusing a student.
The teacher, Anna Andersen, is serving an eight-to-12 year prison sentence after pleading no contest last year to sexual abuse of a minor.
She was a teacher at Freedom Elementary in Cheyenne when the abuse of the boy occurred over a two-year period.
The federal lawsuit was filed on behalf of the boy against Laramie County School District 1, Superintendent John Lyttle, school principal Chad Delbridge and others.
It contends they failed to act even after it became clear there was an inappropriate relationship between Andersen and the boy.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified compensation and punitive damages.
Both Lyttle and Delbridge say they can’t comment on pending litigation.
