The Laramie County School District 1 Board of Trustees voted during a special meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 11, to postpone the start of school until Monday, Aug. 31.
While school was slated to begin Monday, Aug. 24, the new start date was selected to allow teachers, students and parents additional preparation time.
With this change, June 3, 2021 will be a full day of school. Student/teacher contact days are exactly 175, which is required by Wyoming state statute.
According to a districtwide survey, 5,811 parents, students and staff members preferred to start school on Aug. 31, while 3,908 preferred to begin on the original start date.
