CPD 12-16-20
On December 15, 2020 at approximately 3:00 p.m., Cheyenne Police Officers responded to 511 W. 19th St. (Neighborhood School), in reference to a stolen vehicle.
It was reported that a male, later identified as William Onyski, 40, transient, drove away in a 2019 white Jeep Compass, which was left running and unattended in the parking lot.
Minutes later, a Laramie County Sheriff’s Office Deputy observed the Jeep Compass driving south on the 400 block of South Greeley Highway. The vehicle proceeded to park in the lot of Town and County Liquor (614 S. Greeley Hwy). When Onyski was approached, he began to run.
Onyski was located and booked into the Laramie County Detention Center on the following charges:
• Motor vehicle theft
• Interference with a peace officer
• Driving without an interlock device
• Suspended driver’s license
He was also found to have a Laramie County warrant for failure to comply on an original charge of DUI and reckless endangering.
It only takes seconds for a thief to steal an unattended vehicle left running. The Cheyenne Police Department reminds the community to keep vehicles locked to reduce theft and protect property.
