A federal judge has sentenced a California man to 25 years in prison following his guilty plea to attempting to coerce a 13-year-old Laramie County girl he met over the Internet into producing sexually explicit videos.
U.S. District Judge Alan B. Johnson on Tuesday sentenced 24-year-old Christopher Beets of Santa Rosa, California, to 300 months in prison. The judge ordered Beets to register as a sex offender and remain under supervision for life following his release.
Police arrested Beets last summer after the Laramie County girl turned to her parents for help after a stranger she encountered on the Internet demanded she produce sexually explicit videos of herself and other children.
Federal prosecutor Jim Anderson says Beets had approached several young girls through social media sites.
