The Cheyenne East high school football team will have to wait at least one more week before they can play in the new Okie Blanchard Stadium. The $14 million facility has been running behind schedule because of the weather and failed a city inspection on Tuesday, meaning the Thunderbirds will not host Natrona County at the new Okie on Friday.
Without a certificate of occupancy, Assistant Superintendent of Support Operations Dave Bartlett says East will play Natrona at Cheyenne South while work continues on the new stadium. Bartlett reports that there is still some concrete that needs to be poured, lighting that needs to be installed and that the locker rooms, concessions and ticket booth will not be ready for about another two weeks.
The city will do another inspection next week in which they could grant a temporary certificate of occupancy so a game could be held at the new Okie with portable bathrooms and concessions.
