Cheyenne Post 6 owned a 4-0 record over Casper this season, with the latest win coming a month ago in the Oil City. But the Oilers came out determined in the opener for both teams at the AA State American Legion baseball tournament in Gillette. Both teams were scoreless into the third inning, but that’s when Casper took control. The Oilers would score two runs in the inning, then tack on two more in each of fifth and sixth innings, to lead 6-0. In fact, Post 6 didn’t get their first hit, until an Isaac Taylor single in the top of the seventh. He would come in to score, and make it 6-1 Casper.
But the Oilers would plate two more runs in the bottom of the inning, on a two-run home run by Jacob Kostal, to make it 8-1. The Sixers would add a run in the 9th, but fall to Casper, 8-2. Spencer Dexter went the distance for the Oilers, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out ten and walking four–although all of those were in the first three innings. Post 6 Manager Tagg Lain says it’s time to move on, and they’re not worried about a championship now, it’s all about survival.
Post 6 will play Jackson Friday afternoon at 1 pm. A win and they will stay alive, and play Sheridan right after, at 4 pm. A loss, and the Sixers would be eliminated from the tournament. You can listen to all the action on AM 1240 KFBC, or right here on kfbcradio.com by clicking the On-Air Stream.
