42-inch Water Transmission Main Repair Work Begins This Week

The City of Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities (BOPU) expects construction to begin this week to repair a damaged 42-inch potable water transmission main.

The work will occur in a remote area south of Cheyenne city limits and is not expected to affect public travel. The project is anticipated to last approximately three weeks, depending on weather conditions and material availability.

Repair activities will require isolating approximately one mile of the transmission main, which may temporarily alter water flow patterns throughout the system. As a result, Cheyenne customers may experience fluctuating water pressure and occasional cloudy or discolored water. While discolored water is not harmful, it may stain laundry.

If you experience discolored water, please take the following steps:

  • Run cold water only through faucets or outdoor spigots until the water runs clear
  • Clean faucet aerators or filters

If the water does not clear after following these steps, please contact the Board of Public Utilities at (307) 637-6471.

BOPU distribution crews will assist in clearing discolored water through hydrant flushing in various areas.

Hydrant flushing involves releasing water at high velocities to scour water mains and help remove discolored water from the distribution system.

Planned water shutoffs will be coordinated when possible; however, unplanned emergency shutoffs may occur.

The repair work will be completed by Aztec Construction Company.
