Visit Cheyenne Names Jim Walter President & CEO [AUDIO]

Visit Cheyenne has announced the hiring of Jim Walter as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, following a national search which generated 250 applicants for the position. Walter officially assumes the role after serving as Interim President & CEO since November.

Walter brings extensive experience in destination marketing, event production, and organizational leadership, along with deep roots in the Cheyenne community. During his time as interim leader, Visit Cheyenne strengthened stakeholder relationships, stabilized operations, and advanced strategic priorities focused on tourism growth and community impact.

Visit Cheyenne Board Chairman Anthony Ortiz praised Walter’s leadership and vision, “Jim has demonstrated steady, decisive leadership during a period of transition,” said Ortiz. “He understands both the big picture and the day-to-day realities of destination marketing. The board is confident that Jim is the right leader to guide Visit Cheyenne forward and position our destination for long-term success.”

As President & CEO, Walter will oversee all aspects of Visit Cheyenne’s operations, including destination marketing, sales, visitor services, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning. His leadership will focus on strengthening Cheyenne’s brand, expanding group and leisure travel, and aligning tourism efforts with community priorities.
