Some residents of Cheyenne Ward 1 are already expressing interest in the City Council seat left open by the death of Councilman Jimmy Valdez. Valdez had served 17 years on the City Council representing Ward 1, now the two other ward 1 council members, Scott Roybal and Annette Williams, need to pick his successor. Mayor Rick Kaysen says Roybal and Williams need to come to a consensus on the replacement to be approved by the full City Council, if they are unable to come to a consensus, they will each bring a candidate forward to be approved by the council. Kaysen says this is an important process for the Roybal and Williams.
Kaysen says the process to replace Valdez will take about a month.
Whoever is chosen to replace Valdez will finish out the length of the current term in office.
