New City Insurance Chosen

Last night, during the city council meeting, the council made a decision on who will insure City of Cheyenne employees. In October, WinHealth went into receivership, leaving the city without an insurer. According to Rich Wederspond with the city’s human resource office, an insurance selection committee was formed, with interviews conducted in early November. Following interviews with 4 insurance companies, the committee selected Cigna health insurance.

Wederspond stated the proposal would go into effect January 1st 2016. There were several reasons why the committee selected Cigna, including the savings the city will acquire under the proposed rates, as well a seamless transition to the new insurer.

Wederspond said that rates for city employees will be guarantee for an 18th period; along with that a popular plan under the WinHealth will be provided to city employees under the new plan.

The proposal was approved unanimously by the council. According to Wederspond, City of Cheyenne employees will have to opportunity to ask questions to representatives of Cigna regarding the new plan. The 1st of 10 meetings is set to take place December the 2nd.
