Sen. Ted Cruz To Speak At GOP Convention, Dem. Bernie Sanders Stumps In Laramie

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is scheduled to speak at the Wyoming Republican State Convention in Casper next week.

A release from the Wyoming Republican Party says former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will speak on behalf of Donald Trump and Idaho Gov. Butch Otter will represent Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

All three will speak on the morning of April 16, the last day of the state convention.

More than 500 Wyoming delegates and alternates are expected to attend the convention. They will elect 14 of the 29 national delegates who will represent Wyoming at the Republican National Convention in July.

Republicans selected 12 delegates at county conventions last month, with Cruz picking up nine, Trump one and Marco Rubio one. One delegate was uncommitted.

Bernie Sanders took a Wyoming victory lap after beating Hillary Clinton in Wisconsin, telling a crowd in Laramie their state can give him an important boost toward winning New York in a couple weeks.

Several hundred supporters waited four hours or more to crowd into a University of Wyoming auditorium Tuesday night. Just a day earlier, Bill Clinton campaigned for his wife in Cheyenne, saying she’s the only candidate ready to be commander-in-chief on the first day.

Sanders said his campaign has the momentum after winning seen of the last eight states.

He urged the mostly young college students to participate in Wyoming’s Democratic caucuses Saturday. The caucusing will decide who gets 14 national democratic delegates from Wyoming.

Sanders said his campaign can lead to a government that represents everybody and not just a handful of campaign contributors.
