COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.– Sophomore forward Shaina Ashouri notched what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 55th minute to upend the Air Force Falcons on Friday night at the Cadet Soccer Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colo. Ashouri’s goal came off a rebound from a deflected kick. She recorded goal number seven on the year, which ties her for first in goals in the Mountain West. Wyoming improves their conference record to 2-1-0 and their overall record to 6-2-3 on the season.
“It was an extremely physical game,” UW soccer head coach Pete Cuadrado said. “I am proud of the girls for stepping up and matching the intensity. It took a real team effort to come away with the win.”
Wyoming forced their sixth shutout of the season as the Falcons were unable to get a ball passed goalkeepers Georgia Rowntree and Cassidy Entsminger. The Cowgirl keepers combined for seven saves throughout the match. Rowntree started in the first stanza and tallied three saves, while Entsminger started in the second and notched four saves.
Ashouri led UW in shots with four as the Cowgirls accumulated 12 shots during the match. Sophomores Kaitlyn Lomsnes and Summer Halle contributed two shots apiece to the total. Juniors Sammi Dunda, Laurel Ramer and Anne Hinman and freshman Annika Clayton each tallied one shot.
