A Pastor of the Centennial Valley Community Church, who claims he was shot during a robbery staged the whole incident. The Albany County Sheriff’s department says 44 year old Pastor Dennis Lynn Davis falsified his report of the robbery and in fact shot himself.
Undersheriff Robert Debree says deputies immediately became suspicious of the crime, and after interviewing Davis Wednesday evening about the incident he admitted to falsifying his report. Davis told investigators he had some personal problems that led to his actions, and he apologized to deputies for his actions.
Davis originally stated he was shot during a struggle with a burglar at the church and was shot with his own .380-caliber hand gun. Davis said the burglar was 6 feet tall and wore a black ski mask and camouflaged clothing. Davis was airlifted to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. The Sheriff’s office searched the area using a K-9 unit and were unable to find any evidence of a suspect or a struggle. Debree says investigators also found a Google search on a church computer where Davis searched for what kind of vital organs are in the abdomen area, which he says was a key piece of evidence.
Debree says charges are pending against Davis for false reporting, which is a misdemeanor. He says they are also trying to ask for restitution for the resources that were deployed during the investigation. A total of 18 personnel from the Sheriff’s Department, Centennial Volunteer Fire Department, Laramie Fire Department, Wyoming Highway Patrol, Department of Criminal Investigation Crime Lab, and medical flight crew responded to the scene.
