Cheyenne Regional Medical Center’s Cancer Center Hosts Free Barbecue for Survivors

CRMC  9-12-17

Cheyenne Regional Medical Center’s Cancer Center is hosting a free barbecue for cancer survivors on September 16, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the cancer center, 310 East 24th St. Family members and caregivers are also invited to attend.

“Cancer center staff will be on hand to serve the food and visit with survivors, their families and caregivers,” said Barbara Lawyer, CRMC’s oncology program manager. “The focus is to celebrate and recognize anyone who has had to contend with cancer—either as a patient, loved one or a caregiver.”

Free makeovers will also be available for women survivors.

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is catering the meal, which will be served in the cancer center’s east patio and garden area. Parking is available in the cancer center parking lot or the hospital’s north parking garage. The barbecue is free of charge, and no RSVP is required.

“There is a special bond that develops between someone being treated for cancer and the person’s medical team. But once treatment has ended, everyone tends to go their separate ways,” Lawyer said. “Having this barbecue is one way for us to reconnect with the many people in our community that we’ve come to know and care for and to celebrate their survivorship.”
