Child Dies in Pedestrian Crash

CPD 12-13-17

The Cheyenne Police Department is continuing to investigate a fatal crash which occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. on December 12, at the intersection of Converse Ave. and E. Lincolnway. A Chevy Silverado driven by Christopher Wetherholt was southbound on Converse Ave. and made a left turn onto E. Lincolnway. Two pedestrians, Ashley Nowlin, 31, and her son, Aiden Mullinax, 4, both of Cheyenne, were in the crosswalk walking northbound as the truck turned. Both Nowlin and Mullinax were struck by the vehicle. Mullinax died on scene from injuries sustained in the crash. Nowlin was transported to CRMC for treatment.

The CPD investigates all fatal crashes by performing an accident reconstruction to determine how the accident occurred. The reconstruction indicates vehicle speed, vehicle position and other factors that led to the crash. This process can take several weeks to complete. In addition to the reconstruction, drivers involved in fatal crashes are also checked for the presence of drugs and alcohol. No citations have yet been issued in this case. This case remains under investigation by the Cheyenne Police Department.
