Coal and Diversity Vital to Economy

The State of Wyoming depends on energy extraction for a big part of the state revenues, which makes it subject to the ups and down of the industry. The state needs to diversify its economy, but not at the expense of the energy industry, says Governor Matt Mead.

Mead says, with the addition of some manufacturing and technology jobs, the state has taken steps to diversify. That should continue but should not replace the coal industry.

Mead says more needs to be done as far as investment in improved technology and reduced carbon emissions.
