Cowgirl Soccer Picked Third In Preseason Poll

The University of Wyoming women’s soccer team was picked third in the preseason Mountain West Coaches’ Poll, the conference announced Monday.

 

Defending MW regular-season and tournament champion San Diego State was picked to finish first with 119 total points, including nine first-place votes. Colorado College came in second with 109 total points and garnered two first-place votes. Wyoming received 96 total points to claim the third-place spot. New Mexico and Utah State tied for fourth with 82 total points. Boise State (81) finished fifth, with one first place vote. San José State and UNLV tied for sixth with 53. Air Force (43), Fresno State (34), Colorado State (23) and Nevada (17) rounded out the preseason poll.

 

Wyoming the returns 15 letterwinners from the 2014 squad that went 11-9-1 overall and 8-3-0 in the Mountain West, finishing second in MW. Head coach Pete Cuadrado enters his fourth year at the helm, in addition to 15 letterwinners he will welcome back 2014 MW Offensive Player and Freshman of the Year in sophomore forward Kaitlyn Lomsnes (10 goals, four assists, 24 points). Other top returning players for the Cowgirls include sophomore Alisha Bass (five goals, six assists, 16 points) and junior forward Laurel Ramer (three goals, three assists, nine points).

 

Cowgirl fans will get the opportunity to see the Cowgirls 13 times at home in 2015, with two exhibition home games, 10 regular-season home games in Laramie, including one against San Diego State on Sun. October 11th, and a 13th game to be played in Cheyenne on Sept. 15th vs. Northern Colorado.
