Deputies Report Accidental Shooting

LC Sheriff 5-30-17

On Saturday, May 27, 2017 at approximately 2136 hours, Laramie County Sheriff Deputies were handling a disturbance call in the area of the 700 block of South Fork. While the deputies were handling the disturbance call they heard what they though sounded like a gun shot. A short time later a male walked up to the deputies and he appeared to have a gunshot wound in his chest area.

The male stated he was at his home which is also in the 700 blk of South Fork. He said he thought he heard a disturbance outside his home so he went out to investigate. He brought with him a two shot .22 caliber derringer. As the male ran out his front door he dropped the gun on the concrete that was just outside his front door. When the firearm hit the concrete one shot was fired which hit the male in the chest area. The male said he pulled up his shirt and saw a small puncture wound which was bleeding.

AMR responded and transported the male to Cheyenne Regional Medical Hospital. The male did not need surgery and is expected to recover from his injury. No one else was injured as a result of the weapon discharge.
