Eternal Flame to be Relit on Veteran’s Day

A neglected eternal flame on the east side of the Laramie County Governmental Complex will be relit on Veteran’s Day. The flame was originally lit in 1969 in honor of Laramie County veterans, but for reasons unknown, stopped burning.

Laramie County Commissioner Troy Thompson says a concerned citizen brought their attention to the forgotten memorial and that they decided to look into it, “For some reason, at some point in time, we think maybe when they remodeled the building, the gas line to it was cut and it wasn’t replaced or fixed, so it hasn’t been burning.”

The county decided to take action. They approached Cheyenne Light, Fuel and Power, who installed a gas line for no charge, the county maintenance department redid the landscaping, and a new glass case was installed so the memorial will once again properly honor Laramie County veterans.

The Veteran’s Day ceremony is set for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 11th.
