Inmate Community Work Crew Program Created at the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office

On Monday, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office took an inmate work crew to the Burns Cemetery. The Inmates helped with mowing, weed eating, clearing tumble weeds off the fences, and picking up garbage. The inmates prepared the cemetery for Memorial Day, when visitors will come to visit deceased family members who served in the military.

Sheriff Brian Kozak said, “When I brought this idea to the inmates, they were excited to give back to the community. The inmates had heart felt pride when community members thanked them for their hard work.”

Individuals offered the opportunity to work outside of the facility are low risk inmates that have demonstrated good behavior while they’ve been incarcerated and are in jail for minor crimes. Each were fitted with GPS trackers prior to leaving the facility and were supervised by sheriff’s deputies.
