LCSD1 4-7-21
Beginning Monday, April 12, Laramie County School District 1 high schools will start classes at 7:30 a.m., which is 15 minutes earlier than regularly scheduled. This change will make up for the snow days that occurred March 15-19. The revised schedule will continue through the remainder of the school year.
High school lunch hours will be decreased to a maximum of 30 minutes. Any busing schedules will be communicated by each high school.
This change will not affect elementary and junior high schedules due to the number of instructional contact hours required by Wyoming statute.
According to state statute, districts are required to have a minimum of 175 contact days with students. The state required minimum number of instructional contact hours is 450 at kindergarten, 900 at elementary, 1,050 at junior high and 1,100 at senior high.
Due to COVID-19 and the catastrophic nature of the winter storm, the Wyoming Department of Education is accepting school year calendar waivers from districts across the state.
LCSD1’s alternative schedule is being submitted to the State Board of Education on Thursday, April 22 for approval. However, to garner enough minutes to make up for the snow days, this change needed to occur sooner.
The last day of school will remain on Thursday, June 3. High school graduations will occur at Frontier Park on the dates listed below. Specific criteria regarding the number of tickets and COVID-19 protocol will be issued closer to graduation dates.
- Wednesday, May 26, 1 p.m., Triumph High
- Wednesday, May 26, 3 p.m., South High
- Thursday, May 27, 3 p.m., East High
- Friday, May 28, 3 p.m., Central High.
If more snow days occur, they will be made up by adding days to the school year.
