A panel led by state lawmakers has endorsed a series of bills designed to better protect employees’ personal Internet accounts from their employers.
The Task Force on Digital Information Privacy voted Thursday to recommend several bills that could be debated during the upcoming 2015 session if they are supported by another legislative committee.
The bills include a proposal that would make it an unfair employment practice for employers to demand or request their workers’ personal social media or email accounts.
The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports that the legislation would apply to current and prospective employees.
Lawmakers on the task force said this would safeguard information that employees don’t want their bosses to gain. And, at the same time, they said it still offers exemptions that protect the employer.
