The City of Cheyenne is considering debating a discrimination ordinance. The city tried to implement a human rights advisory council but that was shot down due to massive opposition from all sides. Ward 1Councilwoman Annette Williams has said she will bring forward an anti-discrimination ordinance soon. Ward 1 Councilman Scott Roybal said he is willing to go into the debate of an anti-discrimination ordinance with an open mind.
Mayor Rick Kaysen said he hopes whatever comes forward doesn’t conflict with anti-discrimination laws already on the books.
Laramie recently passed an anti-discrimination ordinance, but Roybal and Kaysen said they hope whatever comes forward isn’t like the Laramie ordinance. The feel the Laramie ordinance goes a little far with possible jail time for offenders of the ordinance.
