A Wyoming solar group is asking lawmakers to lift a production cap on projects that sell surplus power back to the grid.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1Pk4HMG ) that solar advocates presented a proposal to state legislators last month that would allow solar projects to sell more than the current cap of 25 kilowatts back to the grid.

The advocates say removing the regulations would boost commercial solar installations and create a new source of employment.

Those less responsive to the proposal say people who sell power back to the grid may not be shouldering their share of system costs like transmission, generation and distribution.

The practice of selling solar power back to the grid, known as net-metering, has faced growing criticism from utilities across the country.
