Cheyenne Fire & Rescue fire investigators have determined the fire that started in the garage of a single-family house on Dey Avenue late Sunday afternoon was accidental. The fire was at 3046 Dey Avenue.
Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire was a cutting torch that was used inside the garage prior to the fire starting. The fire spread quickly because of the flammable materials located too close to the operating cutting torch. Once the fire started, the nearby cutting torch cylinders were compromised which fed the fire even more.
The fire was reported at 5:13 p.m. and it took firefighters about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.
There was significant damage to the garage, house, and contents. Damage is estimated in excess of $150,000. There was some smoke and heat damage to two nearby residences.
