The Salvation Army of Cheyenne announced today that donations to the 127th Annual Red Kettle Campaign are significantly down this year compared to last. This slow start is troublesome as it could significantly impact programs and services essential to those in need in Cheyenne.
Decrease in donations is partly to due to a drop in kettle sites including the 2 local Albertson stores. The loss of these 2 sites will cost the local Salvation Army, approximately $10,000 in donations. The Salvation Army of Cheyenne went from 20 kettle sites in 2015 to only 16 in 2017. Public is urged to make a donation at their local red kettle to help make up the difference. 100% of kettle gifts stay in the community where the money is donated.
This time of the year is crucial for the organization. Donations collected in the red kettles during the next 3 weeks help cover annual expenses to operate essential community programs, such as our food pantry, rent and utility assistance, hot lunch program, hygiene closet, and case management assistance. “This worries me but I am hopeful that the community will step forward to help The Salvation Army serve those in the greatest need” shared Captain Trimmer of The Salvation Army, “Every penny, nickel, dime, quarter and dollar benefits the community. You can’t believe how quickly it adds up.” he continued
The public is being asked to help as much as possible over the next few weeks with donations in the kettles, online or phone.
