Torrington Man’s Body Recovered from Hawk Springs Reservoir

By Kari Eakins – 22 Sept ’14

The body of James “Jesse” Nelson was recovered from Hawk Springs Reservoir on Saturday by Goshen County Search and Rescue personnel.

Wyoming State Parks reports that the 53-year-old Torrington man jumped into the reservoir on September 15 to save an occupant that jumped from his boat into the reservoir for an unknown reason. That person was rescued by another boat, but Nelson went under the water and never resurfaced.

Personnel from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Goshen County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management Agency, Goshen County Search and Rescue, Hawk Springs Ambulance, Torrington Volunteer Fire Dive Rescue Team, Capitol City K-9, and Wyoming State Parks, Historic Sites, and Trails were involved in the search for Nelson.
