UPDATE: Party Altercation Leaves Two Cheyenne Men Dead

CHEYENNE,Wyo.— The Cheyenne Police Department continues to investigate the shooting that occurred at 4523 E. 14th St. at 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 that left two men dead.

Earlier in the night there was a physical altercation that occurred between multiple people at the residence. After the altercation, one of the party guests contacted Darius Mathis, 23, of Cheyenne, to come over to the residence. Mathis entered the residence uninvited and caused a physical disturbance inside the house. This disturbance then moved outside to the front of the house.

A pistol, allegedly belonging to Justin Morrison, 23, of Cheyenne, was introduced into the fight. A struggle over the gun ensued and ended with Mathis shooting Morrison with that gun. Morrison then went back into the house where he collapsed.

Mathis followed Morrison towards the front door of the residence with the pistol in his hand before Brandon Painter, 20, and resident of the house, shot Mathis with an AR-15 rifle.
Through the investigation conducted by detectives it appears Painter acted in self-defense.
